3-4 August (Wasilla/Palmer, AK)

3 August – Traveled to Wasilla, AK (Big Bear RV Campground). Some of you might remember that Wasilla is where Sarah Palin lives. We tried to find her house to pay her a visit, but we came up 2 houses too short. That’s okay. We figure we’ll meet up with her in Wal-Mart.
4 August – Went to the Palmer Visitor Information Center. They had a beautiful flower garden, and of course, we took an excessive number of flower (and giant rhubarb) pics.
Then, we took a tour of a Musk Ox farm. These are really quite ugly, but sweet and intelligent animals. They were separated into fenced areas according to their age (babies, toddlers, teens, adults and seniors). The babies loved the attention and we were able to feed and pet them. The Musk Ox at this location are used just for their hair to make Qiviut yarn. They had some of the yarn for sale, and they were quite proud of it–$85.00 will buy you enough for one very small hat. Needless to say, we looked, ooh’ed and aw’ed, and left empty handed.
Then, we did grocery shopping! We should have gone to Wal-Mart instead of Fred Meyer, because Sarah was surely there waiting to greet us. Oh, well!

  1. I am enjoying your blog….feel like I am sharing the adventure with you…don’t you think a baby musk ox would look cute in my back yard??

  2. Yes, Helen, it would blend in with all the other animals you plan to put in your back yard. 🙂 However, I’m afraid it would suffer in the AL heat. This day, it was in the mid-50’s and rainy, and they said it’s really too hot for them, so….. Glad you are enjoying the blog. Thanks for all you are doing for us back home. Love ‘ya!
